[TRANS] Protect the Boss Stylist Writes: “Jaejoong is Too Beautiful, So We Must Suppress His Looks.”

The below entry was posted on the official webpage of Protect the Boss by a purported stylist of Jaejoong. In Korea, both Boss and Jaejoong are being met with very favorable reviews. However, no drama is perfect. Jaejoong’s skin tone, artificially toned town, and his clothes and hair color, also uniformly black, have generated some comment (see here). In particular, Jaejoong’s facial skin is noticeably of a different color than the rest of his body, such as his neck and his hands, and this has also prompted some viewers to wish for correction.
To this, a stylist replied on the official homepage. To summarize, she wrote that Jaejoong is too beautiful and therefore, in her opinion, his looks must be suppressed.

I believe that to the fans who have much interest and expectations with regards to the drama and also who are fond of and likes Mr. Kim Jaejoong, when thinking of the time when he was a singer when he was always light, shining, and splendid, the current form of Muwon may seem drab, novel, and have many complaints. It may be just a difference in belief, but if you had thought of Muwon to be a splendid person in the role of the Prince of the Financial World, (your belief was wrong). For instance, the form of Lee Minho and Kim Hyunjoong in Flower Men are supposed to be not of reality but of the fantasy of a manga. Muwon of Protect the Boss is a regular man, who is just simple, sharp, realistic, clean-cut.
Mr. Jaejoong’s (real) appearance is not normal and he is too splendid-looking and sticks out too much in his handsomeness—the more a person is like this, the more we must suppress everything else about this person, and that is how he shines more as an actor.
It is definitely not that we are trying to kill his beauty purposefully.
But it is true that we make him look less splendid in order so that by not making him sticking out or adorning him too much, he will meld into the drama with the many sunbae actors and be seen as an actor who is not awkward.
We also need reality… (because Mr. Jaejoong looks a bit different from regular male actors in that he is as pale and lovely as a prince in a fairy tale and has clean lines and sticks out in appearance…)
Mr. Ji Sung and Mr. Jaejoong are ten years apart in actual age. But they are the same age in the drama~ Although Mr. Ji Sung is indeed young-faced…
Mr. Jaejoong is not yet at the age in which a suit befits him. This is not a lighting that is more extravagant than the stages. I think it is possible that he looks old, dull (due to all of the above listed factors).
However, as time passes and he comes to be active as an actor and gets older in age a bit and becomes aged due to time and grows, I think he will become a great male actor who will shine even if he does nothing no matter what role he plays, not because he is adorned but rather because his own experience/growth is compiled. Mr. Jaejoong… he can surely do this so please wait a little. ^^
The summer is too hot. Mr. Jaejoong himself who wears the clothes and the person who makes him wear the clothes will want to put him in clothes that are only light and pretty and such~ The reason that he wears dark clothes (despite all this) is that he is Muwon of a cold personality. Also, his skin is too white and we have arranged it out of worry that if we clothe him in a bright color he may look even younger and look like an idol.
Rather than have the clothes be seen by wearing adorned and pretty clothing, please look at Kim Jaejoong’s gaze, way of speech, expression, and such facets of the actor more. When the melodrama begins towards the end of the drama, he will come out as a bit lighter.
When there is a tag that says “actor with idol origins” there isn’t a need to purposefully kill the beauty but the splendidness of the previous form does not help.
A person who is plain or regular-looking must be adorned so that he looks prettier.
But, Mr. Jaejoong’s looks are so splendid to the degree that light pours forth, as you say.
The director, script writer, lighting director, filming director… and also Mr. Kim Jaejoong’s stylist, hair and makeup staff are all professionals. They like Mr. Kim Jaejoong so much and are fond of him so they pay much attention and are working hard in this heat.
I believe that it is of course okay that you the viewers point out and request that things be done a certain way.
Only, the people themselves who work in it are putting in even more effort and they think in their actions. And Mr. Kim Jaejoong also trusts and depends on such people, and he also is putting in much effort to show a good work to the fans who are fond of him and who like him.
Therefore do not be distressed. Please keep looking forward to the drama and please support us.
You’ve seen much already Mr. Jaejoong looking splendid and unreal. Also, it is said that the second-generation chaebols are largely simpler and more realistic-looking than one thinks.
The opinions that you viewers wrote with affection, also, we will take them into good consideration.

There are some clear errors of logic and departures from common sense in the above statement. Many viewers are currently persisting in calmly writing their contrary opinions and suggestions, as is their right.

Update: The stylist wrote a few minutes ago: “Yes… We understand (your concerns). The discussion with the makeup director has been done, so that the makeup will no longer (aim to make Jaejoong) look drab, to the extent possible. We talked, saying that starting tomorrow, we’ll go light, with the actual skin tone of Kim Jaejoong himself.”
