[TRANS] JYJ in Nov/Dec issue of French magazine: Kpop Life

Meeting with JYJ
With JYJ coming to Europe, we couldn’t miss such an opportunity to miss these important icons of K-pop. It’s to Barcelona that we went to meet Yoochun, Jaejoong and Junsu. So here is a double-page specially in their honor.
Thanks: Alexandra B, Alex P, Open Music, JYJ
After the SM Entertainment concert in Paris, it’s Spain and Germany’s turn to receive korean idols with JYJ’s European tour. A Kpop Life Mag’s kick-ass team went to Barcelona to meet the group.
We arrived on Friday, 24 hours before the concert, to meet with JYJ before rabble, and there’s already fans queuing in front of the venue! Despite the rain, they gathered in front of the door, patiently waiting to see their idols. Some have spent 2 nights, litterally camping on the ground, in order to get the best spots and to try to get in contact with the group before the concert.
After having gone through several check points, we finally could get our press passes, real key, and we can meet JYJ. The atmosphere is cozy and the boys appear, charming even though a bit tired, wearing simple and classy suits. Junsu is the most talkative one, giving us a lot of smiles and staying really attentive despite a dissuading language barrier.
A lot of korean journalists came, and most questions are related to JYJ and Spain.
The concert:
The concert is a total success regarding the energy and the voices of JYJ, and the atmosphere in the crowd (as well as among the artists!). A see of red lighsticks put the place on fire.
There’s however a fly in the ointment regarding the seating chart of the venue. “The VIPs were far and really on the side, we went in the seating area”, french fans told us.
French fans in Barcelona:
The concert was in Barcelona, but it didn’t prevent french fans to make the trip to meet their idols.
Thanks to those who accepted to be taken in pictures for their good mood and their energy.

[NEWS] 111201 A New book That Teaches a ‘Lesson on JYJ’….“Prosper JYJ” Has Been Published

After the “TVXQ crisis” that has been causing a disruption similar to a nuclear blast in the Korean music industry for the past two years occurred, a book that looks into the foundations of this case has finally been written. This book, published by EnterPost and entitled Prosper JYJ (author Kim BumTae) is now for sale.
This book looks into the ‘faceless’ singers JYJ who ‘cannot perform on music shows even if their sales are number 1′ and makes sure that the issues facing them are squarely raised. The large agencies, entertainment organizations and broadcasters, including those who have been placed in the entertainment industry as merely shareholders used to make sure the corrupt system does not collapse, have created a cartel-like structure around artists like JYJ. This book includes information from various media blogs, such as EnterPost’s popular 3 month long series “JYJ walking back to the tent”.
The title expresses not only prosperity but also a sense of fun (興, fun, pleasure, joy). It showcases the entertaining nature in which the book was written as well as a wish for prosperity and joy for those it was written for. The books starts with the background of the event that sparked the “TVXQ crisis” on July 31st 2009 when three of the five members of TVXQ; Kim Jaejoong (Hero), Park Yoochun (Micky), and Kim Junsu (Xiah); applied for an injunction to suspend their exclusive contract with their agency, SM Entertainment. After the legal dispute with SM Entertainment, and the subsequent court rulings in favor of JYJ, the Korea Federation of Popular Culture and Art (KFPCA) sent letters to various broadcast stations and entertainment programs asking for them to intentionally stop any entrance of JYJ into their programs. This was the beginning of the irrational and obvious mistreatment of JYJ in both Korea and Japan.
The book talks specifically about the case of SM hiding the truth about [JYJ']s cosmetics business investment and using it as a source to blame for the lawsuit. Additionally the book also contains information about JYJ’s many feats—the release of their worldwide album, the entry into the Billboard charts, being the first Korean artists to hold successful solo concerts in Europe, and the outstanding musical as well as individual activities of each of the three members. Another strong point addressed is JYJ’s foreign power and how they brought the case of SM’s slave contract to light, causing a ripple among both domestic and foreign media. The book draws on various articles and cultural critics that were affected by the news and also takes a look into the hype of Hallyu.
Over the past few years the author has traveled to countries such as India, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and even Papua New Guinea in both urban and rural areas to see the local reaction to the “hot and popular” Hallyu trend.
He found that the response to Hallyu in Korea did not make sense because [people] were not allowed a healthy development of opinions that could only be caused by being exposed to criticisms and suggestions about Hallyu. In particular he talks about “the media’s arbitrary powers to exercise complete control over the information on Hallyu. The media bias clearly reveals influence from large governmental agencies or entertainment companies to maintain a certain image of The Republic of Korea’s cultural industry. Because of this the Hallyu wave is becoming more of a “distorted wave” and the current of false information hinders the public’s ability to see”. The book also discusses the “loyal gratitude” that idols must have. The author says “The companies use loyalty and gratitude as excuses to deny their stars of their rights and work them until they bleed”. These points in the book have sparked heated reactions from readers since the book’s first publication.
Readers who have read the book said “though this information for many people is new, it should not only be kept locally but should also be spread abroad”
They say that translations and publications to reach overseas fans in China, Japan, and Thailand were necessary.
The company is looking into and planning publications in Japan because of local curiosity about the investigations behind the practices restricting JYJ. “Prosper JYJ” is also republishing in Korea because of hot reactions from readers.
With readers of this book becoming more aware of the unfair and unreasonable situation surrounded JYJ, it is hoped that the entertainment industry will improve its structure. The author has said that a portion of revenues from this book will be donated to the World Vision Global Fund which aids over 100 countries worldwide with relief and development.
(T/N: This book was at the top of Interpark’s recommendation list on the first day that it was released. It is also currently sold out in Korea, which is why they are reprinting.)

[TRANS] K-Wave Magazine: “I am a fan” (YOGI, JYJ-fanartist)

Cho Young-Pil created a huge fanclub made of young teenagers for the first time in Korea. Seo Tae-Ji was named president of culture and H.O.T. became a foundation of Korean fanclubs thanks to its “agressivity”.

At that time, fans were listening again and again the audio tapes of their artists, until the day when they wanted more. That’s why they started to wait in front of the banks for hours to buy concert tickets. Fans have sent a lot of letters and gifts to idols, a especially thanks to the Internet, they’ve posted videos in which they thing their favorite songs on Youtube. A new branch is opening, in which fans can show in a quite original way how they support their favorite artists.

K-Wave has interviewed a fan-artist called Yogi, who became popular thanks to the fandom that she joined: JYJ’s. With her drawings, she became famous among the members of JYJ fandom. Her blogs keep the highest number of visits, even when she doesn’t post drawings.

Recently, she officially became the supporter of the “Protect the Boss” drama in which JYJ members appear. She’s gotten her display board on the home page of the drama, on which her drawings appeared. YOGI is an independant fan-artist who works on a portraits website at the same time.

Yogi’s profile
Name: YOGI
Age: 20
Hobbies: Taking pictures, drawing JYJ.
She works for a website that produces portrait, “Hyunart”, and uses the nickname “labiebel”. Yogi’s drawings appear in the famous drama “Protect the Boss”.

Q: What made you become a JYJ fan?

A: I’ve been a TVXQ fan for 7 years. I became a fan when seeing their “Tri-angle” MV and I started to get interested in this music. I think that I like strong things. Now, I actually work as a JYJ fan. At some time I had financial problems, but when hearing an interview of JYJ, they encouraged me to strongly have faith in myself. To me, JYJ are like a swamp from which I can’t escape.

Q: Why drawing JYJ?

A: When I draw something, I’m used to drawing what I like and what I’m interested in, so it’s clearly the reason why I started to draw JYJ.

Q: Do you have funny memories while working as a fan-artist?

A: First, my drawing skills and the way I use the programms have improved. Several people were surprized to learn that I’ve studied fine arts, because to be honnest the drawings that I post on the websites are simply cute characters. In short, 90% of my works are JYJ drawings. When I draw for classes, it takes me 4-5 months from the start to the final drawing, while I can do 30 JYJ drawings per day (laugh). Lately, my friends have started to worry about me, because I’m too serious about it… But I can help loving JYJ.

Q: Do you have difficulties when working as a fan-artist?

A: It’s really hard when people use my drawings for a commercial use. If these people are in Korea, then I can ask them to stop. Well, there’s been several cases, when people in foreign countries sell T-shirts and other goodies with my drawings. I feel irritated and angry when it happens because my drawings have a pure purpose.

Q: Do you have an encouraging message for JYJ?

A: I’ll always thank them for giving me good music. I hope that JYJ understand that a lot of fans are happy thanks to them. I also wish that JYJ will always be happy and healthy. I’m not sure of what it the life of celebrities, because I don’t live that life, but I’m sure that it’s a tiring job. Hence, I don’t believe in any religion but I pray every day for JYJ. I would just like to say that, please, take care of your health because health is the most important. I’ll alway support you guys.

[Trans] 111130 JYJ Become “Sold-Out Boys”…. 70,000 Copies Of Remix Special Edition Sold Out

Group JYJ’s special edition album has sold out at 70,000 copies.
On 30 November, JYJ’s management company C-JeS revealed that “JYJ’s first Korean album released in September, recorded 250,000 copies in sales despite the broadcast restrictions, a proof of their burning popularity. To express their gratitude towards the fans, JYJ released a special edition album which included a MV DVD and remix versions, and this (special edition album) is currently sold out at 70,000 copies.”
This Special Edition album includes remix versions of the two songs that have been greatly loved by fans across the world during their worldwide concerts, “Get Out” and “In Heaven.” The trendy electronic mix for Get Out was co-produced by DJ Fractal, who had previously worked with Seo Taiji.
As for the ballad “In Heaven” which leaves a deep impression of people with its 3-member harmony, it uses an acoustic guitar sound as its focal point, blending the unique softness of pop ballads together with powerful rock elements.
JYJ said, “As these are songs that we wrote ourselves, the remix versions are even more special. This year, be it those who hope to have a sensitive, delicate year-end, or those who are at a party with their friends, we hope that everyone can enjoy the remixed songs comfortably, and with our new music, spend a warm winter together with your loved ones. “
C-JeS said, “The “In Heaven” Special Edition which was released last week was sold out from its release, and requests from fans who have not been able to purchase the album have been pouring in. As this is a special edition album and not an actual album, having a situation of such a high level of demand is extraordinary in the music industry. To thank the fans for their never-ending support, we will continue to use various opportunities to give back to the fans for their love.”
JYJ’s remixed tracks will be released on Melon, Dosirak, Bugs, Cyworld and other key music distribution sites on 1 December.

[NEWS] JYJ Raises Awareness for “World AIDS Day” Through Twitter

Photobucket
On December 1, the three JYJ members shared an interesting conversation on Twitter to raise awareness for the 30th “World AIDS Day.” JYJ was appointed as Regional Goodwill Ambassadors for UNAIDS last August.
Jae Joong first tweeted, “Do you guys know we are UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassadors? Junsu~!! What special day is December 1?”
Junsu responded about an hour later, “Don’t forget December 1st is ‘World AIDS Day’!!!Yuchun, Don’t you have anything to tell us?”
Moments later, Yuchun wrote, “Hey guys follow join @UNAIDS and visit wad2011.unaids.org. Love you all!!”

After this brief conversation, more than 600,000 JYJ Twitter followers retweeted and mentioned on it. The conversation was intentionally typed in English for their international fan base.

JYJ said the part they’re promoting the most as Goodwill Ambassadors is “eradicating misperceptions” about AIDS. “It’s important to spread the word about AIDS that it is just one of the many diseases and it’s a curable disease if treated properly. It’s important that we change the people’s mindset on it. We hope the 30th anniversary of the ‘World AIDS Day’ will raise awareness and change the misperception on AIDS,” JYJ said.
“JYJ has been tremendously helpful in promoting our AIDS campaign. Since their appointment as our Goodwill Ambassadors, the number of followers for our Twitter campaign, ‘Love Always,’ has nearly tripled, and more than 40,000 fans from around the world has joined our UNAIDS campaign. We are truly shocked at the results. We thank JYJ for dealing with the AIDS issue through SNS channels and creating a common interest over an issue that could be considered too serious,” the representative of UNAIDS said in a statement.
JYJ is also spending a lot of time on helping the one’s in need through charity work. They also joined Song Ji Hyo and Yuchun’s brother, Park Yoo Hwan, for a child support fund in Africa.
