“Let’s Go to Pusan to See JYJ”. Korean Wave Fans Come Flooding
Because the Fans of the Korean Wave are So Heated, Pusan’s Beach is Cramped
The hotel industry of the Haeundae (T/N: Pusan’s well-known beach) is screaming with delight because Japanese fans are gathering en masse in order to see the concert of the idol group “JYJ” that will be held on the coming 11th and 12th in Pusan. In grand Hotel, Novotel, Sentum Hotel and the like, in all Hotels of Haeundae there are bookings of 200 to 300 rooms and for this weekend all rooms are completely filled.
According to the industry, these fans who have been gathered by a travel agency in Japan number around 1,000. However, when taking into account those who are attending the Pusan concert without going through a travel agency, the number should be quite above this.
Grand Hotel relayed: “Concerts of Korean Wave stars are receiving attention because the rental fee for the venue and the advertising fee is affordable and it is also good for inviting the Japanese fans. Because Japan’s culture is different from ours, even if an idol fan, the Japanese fans are from a wide range of ages from those in the twenties to those in the sixties so that there are many instances in which the mother, the daughter, the grandmother, and the son book together.
JYJ is in the middle of a world tour concert that began in Thailand last April and stopped in the US, China, Canada, and others. JYJ plans to hold the finale performance in the coming weekend in Pusan’s Sajik Indoors Gymnasium. The reason that JYJ selected Pusan even though most finale performances are held in Seoul is because the current world tour schedule did not have Japan.
On the other hand, the regional airline Air Pusan also plans to fly special chartered airplanes in an unprecedented move for the Korean Wave fans. Currently demands for additional seats for the Pusan-Osaka route that are travelled twice a day poured down so that as soon as the A321-200 Airplane with 195 seats were offered as chartered planes the seats sold out in two days.
JYJ is a group that was born when Hero Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun, and Xiah Junsu of the SM-affiliated group TVXQ withdrew from the group and are active in singing, acting, and other such variety of fields. In particular JYJ is gathering much popularity in Japan, for instance having the Tokyo Dome Performance Live DVD record #1 in Japan’s sales rankings.
