“Kim Jaejoong” – A member of JYJ, Korean celebrity – worried about Thai elephants that are endangered. He posted a tweet on twitter and Thai cassies, who felt alert, created donation boxes for donations, to help foundations, and place the boxes in Kim Junsu’s Concert.

From the fact that “JYJ”, a South Korean boy band that are made of three boys – “Kim Jaejoong”, “Park Yoochun” and “Kim Junsu”, has came to open and start their world tour in Thailand on the 2nd to 3rd of April, 2011 at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani. Kim Jaejoong, the person who likes elephants, loves elephants and always wanted so much to ride an elephant, started singing “Chang Chang Chang Chang (the Elephant song)” on the stage has made the fans shocked and stunned with excitement.

And recently, on this 29th of April, “Kim Jaejoong” has just posted a tweet, in Korean, on twitter, saying, “The elephants are endangered in Thailand? This can’t be……..oh my dear elephants.” Thai Cassiopeia fanbases, i.e. TVXQ Thailand, MICKYWORLD etc, has translated the tweeted into Thai language and spread the word about his tweet.

While another Cassiopeia with the name of ‘TVXQKEEP5’ and ‘Unnamed Project’ has posted a message, persuading Thai Cassies to help donate money for the Thai elephants under the name “Thai Cassies help Thai elephants”. They would place the donation boxes around ten locations: Siam Paragon shopping centre and at Kim Junsu’s concert. After that they would gather and sum up the money, then give it to a foundation called “Friends of the Asian Elephant” in the name of Kim Junsu, Park Yoochun, Kim Jaejoong, Shim Changmin and Jung Yunho. Also on this 1st -15th May, they will hire volunteers to help with the donation boxes, by carrying them and ask for donations, on those days as well.

JYJ Jaejoong’s agency C-JeS Entertainment stated on April 30, “After Jaejoong’s December fan meeting in Shanghai, he will hold a fan meeting at the Taiwanese Taipei ATT hall on May 23. The title of the fan meeting will be “2012 Kim Jae Joong Fanmeeting in Taipei.”

A representative that is promoting the event stated, “Currently the drama ‘Protect the Boss’ which features Jaejoong is being broadcast on GTV. The encounter between the premodern and the modern, ‘Rooftop Prince’

Why in the world does the Crown Prince of Chosun fall into the rooftop? ‘Rooftop Prince’ is a drama which utilizes so called ‘timeslip’ through leaping the time as its genre device. While Lee Gak, the Crown Prince of Chosun (Park Yuchun) and his retainers were chased by the assassins, they suddenly leaped the time and fell into the rooftop where Park Ha (Han Jimin) was living. Since someone who lived in the past, particularly as the Crown Prince came to the present, his every move within an unfamiliar environment must become a comedy. His way of talking is so absurd and the behaviors of his loyal retainers are overly exaggerated. Their experiences of modern Seoul per se are linked to the humor such as ‘what this is for.’

At its early stage, it has been called as the drama funnier than ‘Gag Concert.’ Then, a more complicatedly entangled melodrama started. Lee Gak has a feeling on Park Ha which has evolved before he is aware. At the same time, he is trying to get Hong Sena (Jung Yumi)’s heart because he believes his Crown Princess was reincarnated in her. The fact that Hong Sena is Yong Taemu (Lee Taesung)’s lover, who can do everything to achieve his goals makes this four-cornered relationship more complex, however, the framework of this drama on who will be connected to whom in the future is not uncertain. This drama clearly identifies Lee Gak and Park Ha as virtue, on the other hand, Sena and Yong Taemu as evil. If a happy ending will be pursued (it is difficult to have a tragic story line in the genre of comedy), it can be unquestionably seen that Lee Gak and Park Ha eventually open their hearts each other.

In appearance, this drama seems to be nothing more or nothing less than a romantic comedy due to comic features and definite melo lines. However, if we uncover a layer of   such appearance, we can find an interesting point inside. This again comes back to the question why the Crown Prince of Chosun fell into the rooftop. This drama shows that the premodern state of Chosun turns into a comedy per se when it encounters the modern society. It grasped a premodern master-servant relationship as a comedy via showing such features as shouting “his highness” in the street and persisting that they rather have their head cut than their long hair. Therefore, this kind of comedy per se satirizes the premodern   relationship (Is this only the state of Chosun period. In modern world, there is also a hierarchy generated by money) and accommodates the intention to overcome it.

If so, how is the modern world which surpassed the premodern period and became rational and cool like. The state of the modern world where Park Ha is living has its own absurdity as well. Owing to the rationality brought by modernization surpassing the premoderniny, individuals who had subordinated to their groups and status could obtain freedom via money. But, this also made people willing to sacrifice. That is, after money functioned as a medium, good values such as intimate relationships between people have disappeared. Yong Taemu and Hong Sena are such characters who genuinely represent the harmful effects brought by the modern rationality. They make their friends die for their desire and even turn their face away from their family who are in danger.

The reason why the Crown Prince fell into the rooftop derived from the intention to simultaneously view the values of the premodern and modern periods. Indeed, premodern values do not have to be necessarily discarded while modern values are not always better. The important point is to keep good values and to get rid of bad values regardless of premodern or modern periods. In this sense, Lee Gak, the Crown Prince who fell into the rooftop is a character who is standing in a very delicate position. He gradually comes to understand the irrationality of a premodern master-servant relationship through experiencing commoners’ lives and, on the other hand, pathetically looks at contemporary people who are absorbed in money.

‘Rooftop Prince’, therefore, is not a kind of drama dreaming of the revolution in which the present drives out the past. It is just a drama in which the present and past meet and reconcile each other. Then, all the bad things will be pushed away and all the good things will be embraced. Of course, this drama is using timeslip as its genre device. Nevertheless the reason why such comedy-like drama make viewers laugh, cry, and sometimes warm their hearts can be found in the above facts. The point in which the Crown Prince fell into the rooftop and has experienced and viewed the modern commoners’ lives and desires, that is the point where the premodern and the modern meet provides a unique interest to the viewers. Moreover, we need to think about the fact that it is also very significant.

Recently, a video clip in which JYJ’s Park Yoo Chun, Han Ji Min, Jung Yoo Mi, Lee Tae Sung, and the three servants (Lee Min Ho, Choi Woo Shik, Jung Suk Won) of SBS’s drama series Rooftop Prince (written by Lee Hee Myung, directed by Shin Yoon Seob) appear with a bright smile on their face.

[NEWS] 120415 JYJ’s Junsu to release solo album in May + more information on Asia Tour

JYJ‘s Junsu will release his first solo album in May since his debut in 2004.

On April 16th, his agency, CJes Entertainment, revealed, “Kim Junsu will release his first album in May.”

The agency continued, “After releasing his album, on May 19th and 20th, he will rush to open the Asia tour with the Korean concert in Jamsil Gymnasium. Kim Junsu’s album, which he directly produced, is expected to be mostly filled with his songs, in addition to songs presented by JYJ members.”

It is planned that CJes Entertainment will release Junsu’s album concepts through Youtube and Facebook.

It is also confirmed that the Asia Tour, which is from May to July, will consist of 6 cities, including those of Thailand, Macau, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Shanghai.

Meanwhile, Junsu is busy acting in the musical, ‘Elisabeth‘, while Yoochun is busy filming SBS‘ ‘Rooftop Prince‘ and Jaejoong is waiting to film MBC‘s ‘Time Slip Dr. Jin‘.

[NEWS + PICS] 120414 JYJ’s Jaejoong makes an appearance on MBC’s ‘K-Pop Star Captivating the World’

On April 14th, JYJ‘s Jaejoong made an appearance on the MBC special ‘K-Pop Star Captivating the World‘.

The special episode is a documentary that followed Hallyu megastar Kim Hyun Joong for his Japanese arena tour, Korean fan meeting, and his upcoming comeback activities scheduled for June this year. The special episode is receiving much attention because of the appearance of Jaejoong.

As many of you know, it’s very difficult for the JYJ members to appear on television, so fans were quite happy when they saw Jaejoong make an appearance.

Kim Hyun Joong arrived to meet his good friend Jaejoong at Jaejoong’s restaurant “Bum’s Story“. Kim Hyun Joong talked about how they lived together for a year but because of their busy schedules they only saw each other for a month or two while living together. Jaejoong explained, “When Kim Hyun Joong returns back to Korea, I usually have to go overseas and when I return, he has to go back overseas“.

Kim Hyun Joong also revealed that when he went through a tough time, Jaejoong wrote him a letter and that he still keeps that letter to his side to this day. Jaejoong also stated he received a reply letter from Kim Hyun Joong and questioned out loud, “Is it Ok for guys to write each other letters?” while sharing a hearty laugh.
