JYJ’s Jaejoong defers his military enlistment to August 2012

It’s just been reported that JYJ‘s Jaejoong has delayed his military enlistment, citing ‘overseas stay’ as his reason. At this time, his enlistment date has been pushed back to August 31st, 2012. However, if he wishes to postpone his enlistment date then, he will be able to request for a deferment, provided that he has a reasonable excuse.
Jaejoong received his military draft notice back in September. Although he’s currently a student enrolled in Kyung Hee Cyber University as a communications major, he’s reached the age of 24. Consequently, he’s of age where he could be included in the draft despite still being a student.
C-Jes Entertainment told Dispatch over the phone, “Jaejoong has requested for a deferment of military enlistment. He has received permission from the Military Manpower Administration. The enlistment was postponed since there are a lot of overseas promotions this year. There is no problem with him promoting until August of next year.”
The agency’s decision to cite “overseas stay” as the reason for deferment rather than school immediately caught the public’s attention. Some netizens even began to whisper that Jaejoong couldn’t use school as his excuse because he was expelled.
C-Jes brushed off the rumors, stating, “Even during the recent Europe concerts, Jaejoong wrote up 2~3 reports to submit. He is that dedicated.” They also clarified, “Since JYJ frequently has overseas concerts, we submitted documents citing overseas stay, rather than school.”
Although he spends most of his time in Korea rather than overseas (60% compared to 40%), there were no legal problems over his ‘overseas stay’ excuse. A source from the Military Manpower Administration stated, “He doesn’t have to stay overseas during the entire time of his deferment, just because he cited that as his reason… Once the permission is given, it is possible for him to go back and forth between Korea and other countries.”
Although Jaejoong has deferred his enlistment for now, he will have to provide another valid reason if he does not wish to enlist after September of next year. C-Jes stated, “It is a given that a man with a healthy body will be recruited into the military. Since, for the time being, there are overseas promotions lined up, deferment of enlistment was unavoidable. However, Jaejoong is definitely planning to enlist.”
Meanwhile, back in February, Yoochun underwent a physical examination for his own military draft; he was classified as needing review for a chronic asthma condition. He was also categorized as 7th rank in his first formal review back in August. Since reviews can be conducted up to 3 times, the results of the remaining 2 reviews will determine whether or not he will enlist. (Receiving 7th rank in physical examinations for military enlistment usually means the individual is not valid for active military duty due to physical illnesses or conditions)
The Military Manpower Administration stated, “Usually when receiving reviews, a set amount of time period is given for medical treatment. 6 months, or sometimes 4 months, is decided as the treatment period. The progress is checked and the decision is made… An individual can receive up to 3 reviews. With the results from the last review, enlistment or exemption will be decided.”

A non-fan acct ^^ from Seoul Military Manpower Administration about Junsu and Yoochun.

A non-fan acct ^^ from Seoul Military Manpower Administration about Junsu and Yoochun.

Hong said that Yoochun and Junsu came for the physical exam. He's not really interested in male idols, so it was so so for him to see them in the beginning. But as he observed Yoochun and Junsu more, he realized that they were very kind and polite unlike other entertainers. They didn't say no to people who asked for autographs and signed the autographs w/ a smile on their face. Also, they talked to other people around them. When they were finished w/the exam, they smiled and greeted every single staff members at the Administrations office. Hong added that they were also very funny.

Hong said he's not a JYJ fan, but his stereotypes about entertainers were gone after meeting with JYJ. Hong said to Yoochun, "You're so kind unlike other entertainers". Then Yoochun said, "No, I'm not, he he, thank you for your hard work." Hong added later when Yoochun and Junsu got in the car to leave, they even opened the window to greet people 1 last time and smile at everyone.

Hong concluded that Junsu and Yoochun were not just popular celebrities but they had great personalities and wished them the best for their activities in the future.

[News] Controversy over JYJ’s late physical for military conscription? MMA says “It’s because of their stay in foreign countries”

Hope this article clears up some confusion about the recent physical JYJ had to take for Korea’s mandatory military service. :)

Recently there has been a lot of interest over JYJ receiving their physical for military conscription now in their mid-twenties.

[In Korea, men are supposed to receive their physical check-up for Korea’s mandatory military service when they turn 19 so JYJ’s recent check-up is quite late in this respect]

Men are obliged to receive the physical checkup when they turn 19 years old, but JYJ has postponed it for nearly five years, raising the controversy that they may have received special treatment for being stars of the Korean wave.

However, according to Seoul’s Military Manpower Association (MMA), JYJ postponed their physical due to lawful reasons—their frequent stays in foreign countries.

In a phone call with Daily Sports, MMA’s representative revealed, “this controversy over celebrity receiving special treatment has no basis. 3 members of JYJ’s physicals were postponed because of their frequent visits to foreign countries since they were 19 years old. “Reasons due to departures to foreign countries” can be used to postpone the physical until a person is 24 years of age.

Furthermore, they said, “the physical doesn't get postponed just because you leave Korea. If you stay in Korea for more than 60 days, you get a notification for the physical. Regarding JYJ, they never fell under such an exception.

[Meaning, JYJ never stayed in Korea for more than 60 days (never long enough to receive the notification) after turning 19. And even if they did stay in Korea for more than 60 days, long enough to receive the notification, they must have stayed in Korea long enough to act on the notification. This just gives you a sense of how busy they've been since their debut… and makes you wonder what kind of hellish schedules they've been forced to endure for 7 years]

JYJ received their physical at Seoul’s MMA on the 14th, but have no plans to enlist in the military this year. JYJ currently has a world tour scheduled during the first half of this year and Kim Junsu is currently participating in the musical, “Tears of Heaven.”

Today, Yoochun and Junsu came to the Military Manpower Adminstration for their medical examination.

I don’t usually pay attention to male idols, so I didn’t think much about it.

Upon further observation, (I realised that) they were really different from other artists, and people who appear at performances. Not only were they friendly, but humble as well. They were smiling as they signed autographs for the other students that were going for the medical examination, and chatted with the students beside them.

After the medical examination was over, they smiled and said goodbye to each of the staff in a friendly manner, showing me a whole new side to artists.

[News] JYJ members receive physical examinations for possible military draft

The boys of JYJ (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu) recently underwent physical examinations at Korea’s Military Manpower Administration (MMA).

On February 16th, a representative from C-Jes Entertainment revealed, “The three members received physical examinations on February 14th. They are currently waiting for the results“.

The representative further elaborated, “The results usually come out quickly, but because Yoochun has asthma, he needs to undergo a thorough medical examination. The members could be re-examined even after receiving their results“.

All three members are in their mid-twenties, but this is the first time that they received physical examinations for a possible military draft. Until now, the boys have been busy carrying out their schedules abroad and thus weren't able to receive examinations.

JYJ is currently planning to embark on a world tour after Junsu wraps up his musical in March and have no plans to enlist for the military just yet.
