[NEWS] 110906 JYJ to Break New Ground with Germany, Spain Concerts

JYJ will hold concerts in Spain and Germany from next month, marking new territory for a Korean pop group, its agency C-JeS Entertainment said.

The popular boy band will play at the 24,000-capacity Palau Sant Jordi Stadium in Barcelona, Spain on Oct. 29, following in the footsteps of international stars like Ricky Martin and Deep Purple.

Later, on Nov. 6, the band will perform in Germany. Although the location has yet to be confirmed, the 3,500-capacity Tempodrom in Berlin is among the likely candidates, its agency said. English pop opera tenor Paul Potts recently appeared there.

"I'm excited about being the first Korean pop group to hold concerts in Germany and Spain, but there is also a certain amount of pressure to make sure we do a good job," said band member Kim Jun-su, in an interview with the Chosun Ilbo.

"We are rehearsing intensively to make sure we put on a great show for local K-pop fans."

JYJ has previously only performed in Asia and North America. According to its agency, requests flooded in from different parts of Europe after Warner Bros released the band’s first English album "The Beginning" last October. This was followed by concerts in Canada and the U.S.

C-JeS said it picked Barcelona and Berlin because the two cities are cultural hubs within both their own countries and in Europe. "They represent centers where people from North, East and West Europe can gather," it said.

JYJ was formed when three of the original pop quintet TVXQ sued their parent company SM Entertainment in 2009 and left to form their own band. They have subsequently delved into musicals, TV dramas and soundtrack work.

[NEWS] JYJ announces concert dates for Spain and Germany

C-JeS Entertainment has just announced that JYJ has confirmed concert tours in Europe!
On September 5th, representatives revealed, “JYJ will be heading over to Spain in October and Germany in November for their first solo concerts.”

To start, JYJ will be performing at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain on October 29th. The venue has seen performances from the likes of Ricky Martin and Deep Purple, so fans are looking forward to another great performance on that stage.

JYJ will also be making their way to Germany and are currently in the midst of finalizing their contract with the Tempodrom, a stadium previously used by Paul Robert Potts, the winner of ‘Britain’s Got Talent‘. That concert is currently scheduled for November 6th.

Representatives stated, “After the release of their worldwide album, they’ve received love calls from all over the world, especially Europe. This time, we’ve focused on cities centered around Spain and Germany specifically to allow fans to see JYJ.”

The concert sponsor for Spain stated, “JYJ is receiving a lot of attention amongst European fans for their outstanding artistic traits. Not only that, their album was also released in English through Warner Music, a label familiar to European fans.”

The members of JYJ expressed, “We’re moved that we’re able to prepare concerts for fans that we haven’t met yet. With global anticipation on the rise for Hallyu, we’re going to put forth the best of our performances.”

[NEWS] 110729 Pop Idols Bringing Korean Wave to Germany

The growing popularity of K-pop bands in Germany indicates that the Korean Wave may have finally made its way to Western Europe.
According to the VIVA Online Clip Charts, girl group 2NE1′s recently released song “I Am the Best” ranked top of the charts this week. This was followed by “Mona Lisa,” by boy band MBLAQ, and Beast’s “Breath.” Songs by 2PM, Super Junior-M and Big Bang also made their way into the top 100.
The VIVA chart is compiled by German music TV channel VIVA based on the number of downloads and music video hits the songs receive online. The station is equivalent in clout to MTV in the U.S., and is in fact now under the management of MTV following a recent acquisition and merger.
VIVA News reported on Wednesday that K-pop, a new force to be reckoned with in the mainstream music industry, has recently moved beyond Asia and into Europe. It said this is similar to what happened in the 1990s with Japanese music, when J-Pop became hugely popular around the world. One of the key to K-pop’s success, it said, is the attractive looks of its singers, many of whom have undergone cosmetic surgery.
“K-pop idol groups such as Beast, 2NE1, TVXQ, MBLAQ, Super Junior and Big Bang were modeled after boy bands and girl groups in the West,” it reported. “Korean management agencies, notably SM Entertainment, discover young talents and nurture them into becoming highly successful groups. Many Korean groups are immensely popular in Japan, so they sometimes sing in Japanese.”
Meanwhile, JYJ, another local boy band, has expressed its wish to hold a concert in Germany at either the end of October or in early November, the Korean Embassy in Berlin said.
“JYP Entertainment, which manages Wonder Girls and 2PM, is also considering holding concerts in Germany,” it added.
